AUSTIN, TEXAS — The American Association of Nurse Practitioners® (AANP) is committed to supporting the success of nurse practitioners (NPs) and NP students. With that commitment in mind, AANP is pleased to announce the launch of the Nurse Practitioner Preceptor Knowledge Center: your comprehensive destination for support, guidance and inspiration.

Whether you are considering becoming a preceptor or are already actively shaping the next generation of NPs, this resource hub is designed to equip you with the tools, knowledge and confidence you need to succeed. Within the Knowledge Center, you’ll find Precepting with a Purpose: A Comprehensive Guide for Nurse Practitioner Preceptors — a free resource designed to equip NP preceptors with the essential knowledge, tools and resources needed to successfully guide NP students through their clinical education.

Available as both an e-book and a self-paced, interactive orientation course, they offer practical strategies that support student learning while maintaining patient safety and clinical efficiency. Presented as a fillable PDF, the eBook also includes forms to help orient preceptors, students and faculty and keep track of important topics, schedules and milestones throughout the precepting process. By the end of the course, preceptors will be equipped with actionable strategies to:

  • Orient and prepare students for success in the clinical setting.
  • Apply evidence-based teaching approaches tailored to adult learners.
  • Provide constructive, real-time and summative feedback.
  • Evaluate student performance using competency-based tools.
  • Communicate effectively within the student–preceptor–faculty triad.
  • Model professionalism, ethics and respectful patient-care interactions.

In addition to the eBook and interactive course, the Knowledge Center also includes a rich collection of videos, articles and practical tools — including Precepting 101: A Quick Guide to Clinical Teaching — all curated to support your precepting journey. Whether you are preparing to welcome your first student or continuing to refine your teaching approach, the Nurse Practitioner Preceptor Knowledge Center is here to guide you every step of the way.
